« The Humorous Side of Relationship Management | Main | What are Emotions? »

April 19, 2006

The evolution of emotional intelligence is certainly fascinating. I'm glad to see that it's making more in-roads into business to help make the work world at least a little more tolerant for people if not more fulfilling.

There's another emotional intelligence type test that was created by Dr. Simon Baron-Cohen from the University of Cambridge. I was wondering if you were familiar with the EQ Test, which is part of a pair of tests (Emotional Quotient Test and Systemizing Quotient Test: eq and sq tests). If you are familiar, I was wondering how you'd compare it to other emotional intelligence tests. Let me know your thoughts.

Anthony Mersino

James, thanks for your comment. I like to think that emotional intelligence can make work more tolerant for people if applied. Is that your area of interest / expertise?

In terms of your comments on the EQ Test, I know there are a number of tests out there and had not heard of those. I checked out your website and promise that the next time I get a spare 10-20 minutes I will take the EQ and SQ assessments.

Are you aware of the big 3 assessments out there? As I see it, these are in the top tier:

EQi - Developed by Reuven BarOn, this is one of the first EQ assessments.

MSCEIT - This is the Mayer Salovey Caruso Emtoional Intelligence Test, developed by, well, John Mayer, Peter Salovey and David Caruso.

ECI - Emotional Competence Inventory, based on the work by Daniel Goleman and Richard Boyatzis.

Let me know if you have done any work with these three and the results you saw.

By the way, if you want more information on EQ as it applies at work, check out my Squidoo Lens at http://www.squidoo.com/EQ4PM/
